Inspired by his father’s involvement in RSS, H.Raja joined RSS in the year 1964 at the age of 7 at Karaikkudi.He was the ‘Mukyasikshak’ of RSS Karaikkudi during 1974-75. He was associated with under ground movement against Emergency between 1975 and 1977.

As a principled RSS man whose mind is set to the service of society, he returned to hometown, shedding his job, in the year 1984. Soon after his return to Karaikkudi, he again started his services through RSS. He had been Vibhag Vyavasta Pramukh (Arrangements In charge) of Rameswaram division consisting of Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai and pudukkotai District and he continued in that cadre till 1988.

Between 1988 and 1990 he worked as district secretary of Hindu Munnani of Sivagangai District. During his tenure he developed HM branches all over Sivagangai.He was District secretary of Sriram karseva samiti of Sivagangai dt in 1990 and sent 12 karsevaks to Ayodya for Karseva.

He joined in Janatha party in the year 1977 and became the president of ward 4 in karakkudi and continued up to 1979.

He started BJP in the year 1980, in the then Ramnad District. Contested as BJP candidate in Karaikudi Assembly in the year 1989 for the first time. He became the district convener of BJP of Sinvagangai district in the year 1991.

He assumed charge as State Secretary of BJP in the year 1993 and was incharge of Ramnad, Sivagangai and Pudukkottai District.

He has Organized the II State Conference of BJP in August 1995 at Madurai. It was a mega program of BJP where thousands of BJP workers gathered. Shri LK Advaniji was the chief guest of the conference.

In a situation when there were only handful of members in Madurai, Sri. H.Raja steered the conference to a classic event by means of strenuous efforts and initiatives during his memorable stay of over 35 days in Madurai.

His hard work and professionalism in the successful conduct of Madurai conference brought him the honor of his appointment as the General Secretary of Tamil Nadu BJP.Besides, he was also made the incharge of the organization from Kanyakumari to Pudukkottai.

As a Convenor he worked hard to make the Jan 1997 BJP 3rd State conference held at Coimbatore and BJP 4th State conference held at Trichy, a grand success.

He has got the DISTICTION of having a HATRICK in organizing three BJP State conferences as a convener

He continues to be a State General Secretary for the 4th consecutive term since 1995 to till date.
